Description
Rosacea is a skin disorder characterized by
flushing of the facial skin most frequently
in areas of the nose, cheek, forehead and
chin. It also presents with pustules
(pus-filled pimples), papules (hard pimples)
as well as telangiectasias (visible spider
like veins).

show the following:
In the United States one in twenty
individuals has Rosacea, Rosacea is most
common in white women between ages 30 and
50. When it occurs in men, however, its
usually more severe There is also a higher
incidence among people that fair-skinned.
Famous people who suffer(ed) from Rosacea
include President Bill Clinton, Princess
Diana, Rosie O'Donnell, Rembrandt, and
others.
Types and Symptoms
There are three main types of rosacea:
Acne Rosacea Blotchy red patches caused by blood
vessels moving just below the surface of the
skin.
Vascular Rosacea: A condition that is more prevalent in women than men
and is due to swollen blood vessels in the
face.
Ocular Rosacea: Symptoms that affect the eyes include inflamed eyelids
with red bumps and scaly, crusty discharge
from the eyes after sleep. Eyes become
bloodshot and feel as if sand is present in
the eyes. Some sufferers report loss of
eyelashes.
Symptoms
Facial redness In women located on cheeks,
chin, nose and forehead while in men it is
mainly on the nose
Red pimples (unlike acne that has blackheads and whiteheads)
Telangiectasias which are visible spider like veins
Facial burning sensation
Eye irritation
Rhinopyma swollen bumps on the nose
Hyperreactive skin
Causes of Rosacea
are:
Cause of Rosacea is unknown though it does
seem to run in families
Triggers include: exercising, exposure to
wind or sun, stress, eating spicy foods, hot
baths and hot weather
Treatment
Treatment is symptomatic,
meaning relieving the symptoms associated
with this disorder

General Tips
When bathing avoid hot showers and use only mild soaps
Avoid usage of saunas and steam rooms
Do not rub or touch your face
Use makeup sparingly as it can be a source of irritation
When cleansing face make sure to use only mild products that do not
contain alcohol that tends to dry skin
Limit your exposure to the sun, use sunscreen when outdoors
Quit smoking
Limit alcohol intake
Refrain from eating spicy foods as that causes flushing
Eat a well balanced diet
Drink apple or grape juice
Apply a cold compress soaked in cooled boiled chamomile on affected areas
To tone your skin apply witch hazel
To soothe the skin use aloe.
