Description
Acne is a very common skin disorder that is characterized by the overactive sweat glands clogging the skin pores and hair follicles, forming plugs.
Statistical studies
show the following:
Acne usually starts at puberty and continues into adolescence progressively worsening. Between the ages of 12-25 an incredible 85% of people in the United States will develop some form of acne. women experience acne at higher rates than their male counterparts
Types and Symptoms
Two Types
of Acne
Non- Inflammatory: Mild form of acne
that presents with pimples,
blackheads and whiteheads. Pimples
are persistent red spots on the
skin, blackheads are darks spots
with open pores, whiteheads are
spots under the skin without an
opening.
Inflammatory: The whiteheads become
inflamed causing postules and cysts,
can cause disfiguring scarring.
Postules are red lumps filled with
pus, and cysts are lumps filled with
fluid
Causes
The exact cause of acne is unknown. However,
the medical doctors studying this condition
believe there are a number of factors that
are related.
Those include some of the following:

Hereditary and genetics – the tendency to develop acne inherited from
parents.
•
Increase hormones during puberty promote increase production of sebum by
the sebaceous glands
•
Certain drugs cause acne
